Wild Hearts Thoroughbred Adoption Society is a Registered Charity providing aftercare for retiring thoroughbred racehorses. This includes rehabilitating + proper transitioning + basic retraining + finding suitable, well matched adoptive forever homes for thoroughbred racehorses coming off the track. Wild Hearts works directly with concerned and caring owners when their horses are retiring. Horses accepted into the program experience a peaceful transition with friends, freedom & space to roam and forage while they begin ground and basic re-training under saddle in preparation for their new homes and next adventures.
While offering sanctuary is part of the long term goals of Wild Hearts, we are not currently set up for lifelong sanctuary so we are able to accept/transition horses ranging from zero limitations to those with limitations but who won't be precluded from flatwork/light trails following their rehabilitation. If you would like to help make the sanctuary arm a reality, please consider visiting the 'How to Help' tab to become a valued Patron/donor. Thank you!

'Bang the Gong!'
Wild Hearts is proud to champion “Bang the Gong for Aftercare,” an initiative created by Wild Hearts Board Director Lisa Russell to celebrate racing achievements while raising awareness and support for Thoroughbreds as they transition beyond the track.
This symbolic moment connects racing success with responsible aftercare — reminding the industry and fans alike that every Thoroughbred deserves a well-supported second chapter.
As the regional racing landscape continues to evolve, Wild Hearts looks forward to working with industry partners to expand initiatives like this in support of responsible Thoroughbred aftercare.
The Evolution of Thoroughbred Aftercare on the West Coast
As the Thoroughbred racing landscape on the West Coast continues to evolve, responsible aftercare has become an increasingly important part of the sport’s long-term sustainability.
Wild Hearts Thoroughbred Adoption Society, a registered Canadian charity, is dedicated to supporting Thoroughbreds beyond the finish line through thoughtful rehabilitation, professional retraining, and carefully matched adoptive placements.
Our program primarily serves horses connected to established Wild Hearts relationships within the racing community, including owners, trainers, and industry partners who share a commitment to responsible aftercare.
As a working aftercare program, Wild Hearts prioritizes horses transitioning directly from racing connections where responsible aftercare support and partnerships exist. Our program capacity is intentionally aligned with reliable funding and industry collaboration so that every horse entering our care receives the professional rehabilitation, retraining, and long-term placement success they deserve.
Responsible aftercare programs are strongest when industry partners and aftercare organizations work together to provide both funding and long-term placement pathways for Thoroughbreds transitioning beyond racing.
Wild Hearts looks forward to continuing to collaborate with racetracks and industry partners across the Pacific Northwest who share a commitment to strengthening Thoroughbred aftercare.
Owners, trainers, and industry partners who do not currently have an established relationship with Wild Hearts but wish to connect regarding responsible aftercare are welcome to reach out through our contact page.
